Spectrum Engineer

Kepler is changing the face of satellite communications by launching a constellation of telecommunication nanosatellites! With the recent success of our Series A funding, a handful of early customers, and our first 13 satellites in orbit, Kepler is currently doubling in size!

You will be responsible for deriving technical and operational characteristics for various systems still under development, with a focus on developing studies to support ITU and regional lobbying efforts. Additionally you will contribute to the optimization of the network by working with the RF Engineering team to establish best practices for spectrum use.

Main responsibilities:

Lead technical studies for ITU agenda item 1.18, 1.17 and 1.4

Developing strategies, tools, and analyses to support regulatory activities such as satellite network optimization and regulatory initiatives

Proactively engaging with Kepler’s satellite and architecture design teams to optimize the satellite architecture with respect to spectrum considerations and overall company objectives.

A successful candidate will:

Optimize Kepler’s EPFD compliance to maximize the notal system throughput on its Ku and Ka networks

Own and build out technical analysis for ITU studies related to agenda item 1.18, 1.17, 1.4 and working party 7A

Collect and manage requirements related to ISL developments and support the development of internal initiatives related thereto

Seamlessly integrate complex technical showings into digestible reports to be combined with submissions to various regulatory fora.

Operate autonomously with a firm understanding of the company’s objectives

Demonstrate a clear ability to communicate and manage the requirements and restrictions related to the development of Kepler’s networks.

Position requirements:

Excellent command of communications satellite architectures, link budgets, and orbital dynamics

Strong understanding of spread spectrum technologies and recent developments in LoRa, SigFox, NB-IoT

Knowledge of inter-satellite links and the ways in which they can be architected, modelled and developed

Experience in interference analysis and methods of coexistence between multiple networks

Strong interest in telecoms and satellite policy and the ability to solve problems analytically

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, related discipline (communications), or equivalent experience.

Experience in satellite communications and/or spectrum management, to include industry experience.

Experience performing satellite system, communication system, or data analysis using Python and/or Matlab.

Experience developing link budgets, analyzing the potential for harmful interference, and optimizing RF system performance

Bonus points:

Fluency in a second language

Matlab or Python knowledge
