Senior RF Hardware Engineer

Kepler is changing the face of satellite communications by launching a constellation of telecommunication nanosatellites! With the recent success of our Series A funding, a handful of early customers, and our first two satellites in orbit, Kepler is currently doubling in size!

We’re on the hunt for a top-tier Senior RF Hardware Engineer. Your focus will be on RF hardware development, specifically hardware for both our space-based communications payloads as well as ground-based satellite connectivity products. You will have the opportunity to work on everything from high gain phased arrays, to software defined transceivers to low-power, low-cost IoT modules.

We are looking for exceptional candidates with the below experience along with any unique abilities that could be used to augment our small but strong RF team. 

Position Responsibilities

  • Ownership of a significant portion of both new and existing spacecraft and ground segment RF hardware
  • Ensure all RF hardware design, manufacturing and testing follows the latest in RF best practices
  • Design and simulate RF subsystems composing the entire RF transmit/receive chain from DAC/ADC to antenna
  • Perform simulation, schematic capture, layout, DFM, DFT and DFR for RF PCBs
  • Work closely with vendors to improve manufacturing reliability
  • Conduct benchtop bring-up and testing of radios, front-ends and active antennas
  • Work with other engineering disciplines to assemble, integrate and test these RF subsystems as a part of the overall spacecraft or ground terminal
  • Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent
  • 5-10 years of experience designing, building and testing RF radios/transceivers
  • Hands on experience with RF circuit simulation tools (ADS, Microwave Office etc.) and PCB layout tools (Altium, Cadence etc.)
  • Experience designing discrete amplifiers, converters, synthesizers, filters and other microwave components
  • Fluent in basic RF circuits concepts such as: impedance matching, smith chart, network analysis, active and passive microwave components and systems(mixers, amplifiers, transistors at RF frequencies) and their figures of merit (P1dB, Psat, IIP3, noise figure, etc.), RF filter design
  • Experienced with complex RF measurements/testing such as mixer measurements, load-pull measurements, sensitivity testing, antenna testing, phased array calibration etc.
  • Bonus Points

  • MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on RF or antenna engineering
  • Experience working at frequencies above 10 GHz
  • Experience working on cellular base stations, satellites, IoT/embedded RF modules, software defined radio, phased arrays etc.
  • Experience with physical layer testing and development
  • Experience in RFIC design
  • Experience with NPI
